Engineering chief to visit Oxfordshire and Berkshire

The Director General of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Nick Baveystock, is to make a fact finding visit to Oxfordshire and Berkshire on Tuesday 20 November 2012 on an official visit to the ICE’s South East England Region.

Director of ICE South East England, John Laverty, said: “ICE South East England is hosting a day long visit of the Director General during which he will:

  • Visit London Oxford Airport at Kidlington as part of the ICE’s study of aviation capacity in the South East.
  • Meet senior staff at Thames Water to discuss water metering, water and flood management and water security in the area as part of the follow up to the ICE’s State of the Nation: Water Report published in June 2012
  • Tour Reading Station’s Cow Lane Bridge scheme and the Reading Town Centre enabling works which won awards in the ICE South East England Engineering Excellence Awards 2012.


“During his visit Mr Baveystock will also meet members of the Thames Valley Branch Committee, Graduates and Students from the Thames Valley area and have breakfast with a group of local ICE Fellows which is the highest grade of membership available for civil engineers.

“We have a wide range of excellent civil engineering taking place in this area: from road and rail transport schemes, through to fresh water supplies, waste management schemes and flood protection. We are looking forward to showing our Director General the quality of work that has been done and briefing him on future projects needed to create jobs and lay the foundation for future economic success.”
