Entries open for prestigious civil engineering awards
ICE East Midlands is proud to announce that entries are now being received for its annual awards, celebrating the region’s civil engineering excellence.
Entries have opened for the ICE East Midlands Merit Awards (EMMAs), which recognise the innovation in civil engineering which has taken place during 2012.
This year sees five award categories:
- Small project (projects up to £750,000)
- Medium project (projects between £750,000 and £10million)
- Large project (projects greater then £10million)
- Studies & Research
- Team Achievement.
Entries are submitted by a wide range of organisations, including: local authorities, public sector agencies, contractors and private consultancies and are judged by a panel of leading experts in the field.
The judges assess each project to strict criteria including: innovation, sustainability, project management and procurement, application of engineering principles and judgement and teamwork.
2012 saw a record number of entries into the awards with 31 received.
Among those recognised were the A46 Newark-Widmerpool improvement works, submitted by Balfour Beatty Major Civil Engineering, which received the Merit Award in the Large projects category.
Also receiving a Merit Award in 2012 was the Chesterfield Canal – Staveley Town Basin land reclamation scheme, submitted by Derbyshire County Council, which was awarded in the Small projects category.
Malcolm Jackson, Regional Director – ICE East Midlands commented: “I am proud to announce that entries are now open for the ICE East Midlands Merit Awards in 2013.
“This is an annual celebration of the civil engineering excellence carried out in the region and it is always pleasing to see the wide variety of projects which will enhance the daily lives of people across the region.
“I would urge parties with innovative projects to come forward and enter the awards.”
The awards are free to enter and there is no shortlisting process – all submitted entries will be considered and the winning entries announced at the ceremony.
Expressions of interest must be received by Friday 25 January 2013 with full entries received by Friday 22 February.
The awards take place during the annual ICE East Midlands Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel on Friday 7 June 2013.
