GSNet Conference Report

Date:

5 APRIL 2011

The ICE GSNet (Graduate and Student Network) Conference was held over the weekend of 1st - 2nd April in Cardiff. Stuart Ross attended on behalf of ICE Scotland, representing the interests and views of Graduates & Students across the Region while Michael Stewart, chair of the DAB G&S Committee, represented the Education and Careers Panel.

GSNet plays a vital role in giving prospective Professionally Qualified members a voice to join debate at the highest level. It also looks to distribute best practice between Regional G&S Committees with Scotland sharing the success of past events in the Region such as the GWoS Christmas Lunch, Stirling Conference, DAB G&S Pub Quiz and numerous Technical Events. The conference focussed on a number of issues including Support for Graduates out of Work and the possible move to stepped subscription fees for Graduates and Student members.

GSNet have been heavily involved with the development of support tools for graduates out of work which has culminated in the production of a support site on the ICE website. This includes help on the best places to find jobs, alternative career options, case studies and CV advice. For more information see http://www.ice.org.uk/qualification-careers/Graduate-careers-section. GSNet would be keen to know of any graduate or student case studies which show the different ways of getting industry experience in these challenging economic conditions. With ICE President Peter Hansford attending the conference it is clear the ICE are keen to listen to the opinions of graduates and students.
