Graduate and Student Papers Competition winner chosen
A young civil engineer, Oliver Neve, from Ramboll’s Cambridge office has won the ICE East of England Graduate and Student Papers Competition. He will now represent the region in the South of England semi-final battling for a place in the final.
The three finalists were chosen from the seven synopses submitted back in January. They then had two weeks to submit a full paper of up to 4000 words and until last night to prepare a presentation for the judges and an audience of their peers and take questions on their topic. Judging for the competition is weighted 50:50 for the paper and presentation.
The winning paper and presentation from Oliver was 'Shaking Up Dance Floor Design with Timber Concrete Composites'
Second place went to Alan Dowdall, also of Ramboll, with his paper on 'The use of Cross Laminated Timber in Construction' and Third went to Li-Teck Lau from the Environment Agency with his paper 'Flood Storage Areas as Statutory Reservoirs'.
