Judges praise paper for its promotion of alternative engineering on UK Railways
Dawn Gillespie from Guildford who works for Tony Gee, has been named champion of the ICE Thames Valley Graduate & Student (G&S) Papers Competition 2012 for her paper on Reinforced Soil and its use on UK Railway Infrastructure.
Three regional finalists presented their papers to an audience of their peers last week at the University of Surrey.
Second place went to Esther Gordon-Smith, of Hannah Reed, with her paper on Mortar Expansion Caused by Sulphate Attack and third went to Claire Rose, of Bechtel, with a paper entitled Schedule Analysis to Drive Project Decision Making.
The judges, all experienced local ICE members, commended the finalists on the quality of both the papers produced and the presentations themselves.
David McDermott, Chair of the ICE Thames Valley G&S Committee, said:
“Not only were the issues discussed topical but they also covered a wide range of disciplines, and the standard of presentation was impeccable from all three candidates.”
