Happy New Year!

Date:

4 JANUARY 2011

2010 has been a good year for the ICE in the East of England.

14 schemes were entered into the Merit Awards, some in more than one category.  The following schemes were awarded ‘Exceptional Merit’:

■ St Neots Flood Risk Management Scheme
■ Hazelmere Sea Wall, Holland
■ M25 Bell Common Refurbishment
■ Cobbins Brook Flood Alleviation Scheme

In September Glen Owen has joined the Regional Support Team as Regional Director.  Glen has already started to meet many of our local members.  We also said a fond farewell to Carole Hullis – who has made a huge contribution to the success of our Region over the last few years.

Our Membership Development Officers – Louisa and Roger – have had a very busy year.  With their support 48 people from the region were successful at professional review, including 6 EngTech TMICE.  There were also successes at Technical Report Route, the Engineering Council Organisations route and EU Diplomate route.

Tonderai Chakanyuka from Grontmij in Peterborough was one of Paul Jowitt’s President’s Apprentices at the beginning of the year.  Constance Chakanyuka from the Environment Agency and Paul Astle of Pick Everard, both from the region, are now Peter Hansford’s President’s Apprentices.

2010's East of England Annual Conference was held jointly with the IMechE, RIBA and NISP.  The conference asked the question “Is Low Carbon Sustainable Development Possible” and concluded that – given a collective will – it is.

Looking forward to 2011 we already have a busy schedule ahead and are looking forward to another successful year.
