The Environment Agency are looking for a new member to join the Anglian (Eastern) Regional Flood and Coastal Committee which covers large parts of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, and the Unitary Authorities of Southend and Thurrock. The area includes Britain’s largest wetland, the Broads, and rivers including the Waveney, the Wensum, the Yare, the Stour and the Colne. The area is particularly vulnerable to the risks of flooding and coastal erosion.
The Committee has an important role in deciding local priorities for flood and coastal erosion risk management, and to support us and local authorities to create local partnerships to fund and deliver projects with the communities at risk. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to become a part of this work.
The Environment Agency have a wide range of people on their committees and it is important that they have a good balance of skills and experience among the members. Those on the Committee have expertise in areas such as agriculture, engineering, and conservation.
The Environment Agency are looking for someone who would like to play a part in helping to develop their plans, to work closely with partners and communities, someone who brings enthusiasm and new ideas.
The Environment Agency would particularly welcome applications from people with knowledge of the water industry and/or experience of community engagement.
The new member will have a contact within the Environment Agency who they can work closely with to ensure they have a good understanding of the issues and discussions taking place at committees and who will be happy to answer any queries.
The members are all appointed as impartial individuals in their own right and not as representatives of any particular organisation. The Environment Agency want to ensure their committees represent the communities they serve and they welcome applicants from all walks of life. The Environment Agency make all public appointments on merit, following a fair, open and transparent process.
So if you are interested in helping to make a difference in your local area then do get in touch to find out more or request an application pack.
The closing date for applications is 14 December 2012
Interviews will take place in January 2013
