What a celebration of sport 2012 has been in the UK! As attention turns from London’s Olympic Park to the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, ICE is delighted to announce that its own civil engineering themed ski trip for young people and families is open for bookings.
ICE & SNOW also uses the power of sport to inspire and make young people aware of the importance of engineering. Now in its ninth year, this annual event combines skiing with evening activities for everyone to enjoy.
No ordinary ski trip
After an exciting day on the slopes the younger members of the group take part in some inventive and challenging engineering games. Of course the adults can get involved too.
Families join in building bridges, marble runs, wind generators, cable cars and much more. There’s also a brand new event of geocaching on skis; a sort of modern day treasure hunt using GPS technology to locate a hidden “cache”.
In 2006 the trip was featured on BBC local news and past participants have quoted ICE & SNOW as their reason for taking up an engineering degree.
Building on this success, ICE & SNOW will also be organising a new event next year to inspire children from disadvantaged backgrounds who might not otherwise learn about the importance and benefits of civil engineering.
