ICE BIM 2012 report

Date:

30 OCTOBER 2012

Following another successful ICE BIM conference last month, we are delighted to offer a range of new resources on Building Information Modelling (BIM) available on our website.

As well as a report containing ICE’s policy position statement on BIM, there is also an ICE Library guide, a dedicated BIM section on the ICE website and a selection of the latest case studies from across the construction industry.

A new home for BIM online

The ICE website now has a section exclusively for BIM materials, including essential news, events and best practice guides.

This month, we have a collection of eight case studies on how companies are using modelling tools to meet the challenging requirements of projects while also improving efficiency.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) views Building Information Modelling (BIM) as the purposeful management of information through the whole life cycle of an infrastructure asset and fully supports the UK Government BIM Strategy. ICE aims to ensure that the civil engineering profession fully engages and helps with the BIM implementation programme.”

Another BIM conference success

The conference itself, which sold out yet again, featured an update on the Government Construction Strategy from Paul Morrell, outgoing Chief Construction Advisor.

The conference was expertly chaired by Mark Bew, Chair of the Government Industry BIM Working Group and BuildingSmart UK, and attracted 300 senior level delegates. Interactive voting, roundtable discussions and panel sessions allowed attendees to input their thoughts and experiences into the agenda.

Stephen Hamil, Director of Design and Innovation at NBS and a speaker at the conference, later blogged about the day stating that the event was “one of the highlights of the UK BIM calendar”.
