ICE Y&H Communications Competition 2013

Date:

21 DECEMBER 2012

Are you prepared to face the public? Do you have the public involvement and communication skills that are the key to successful careers and successful business?

Few engineers today can progress in their careers without mastering the skills of communication and public involvement. Experience shows us that these skills can make the difference between the right project being built quickly, and the project not happening at all. Delays, cost overruns and project failure may often be due to a failure to obtain a consensus or develop partnerships.

Taking part in the ICE Communications Competition is a brilliant way to develop the skills you need in a constructive role-play way, as well as an opportunity to gain prestige and prizes.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to Graduate and Student members of the ICE with no more than seven years’ industry experience. Teams of three to five* people select one of the available scenarios and come together to:

  • Prepare a public consultation strategy
  • Produce a public information leaflet
  • Make a presentation at a ‘mock’ public meeting as required by the brief

Complete entries must be received by 21 February 2013.

The ICE Yorkshire and Humber regional final will take place on 7 March at the University of Sheffield. National semi-finals take place in April, and the ICE national final will take place in May. Teams must ensure they are available for the semi-final and final if successful.

Entry documents:

*Teams will be made up of four people, except where a team has an individual student member, whereupon a team of five will be permitted.
