ICE East Midlands welcomes Director General

Date:

6 SEPTEMBER 2012

ICE East Midlands is pleased to welcome the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Director General, Nick Baveystock, to the region next week.

This is the second visit that Nick has paid to the region since taking over the reins as Director General in January this year.

He will address an audience of ICE East Midlands members at ‘An Audience with the Director General’ event which takes place on Wednesday 12 September at IGEM House, Kegworth from 6.30pm.

His presentation will focus on his future plans for the Institution, specifically: engaging with members, sharing engineering knowledge and expertise and raising the profile of the role of civil engineers in society (civil engineers are responsible for a variety of work, including: transport, energy, structural and infrastructure projects).

On Thursday (13 September), Nick will meet a variety of key local influencers and decision makers across the region.

Malcolm Jackson, Regional Director – ICE East Midlands, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Nick Baveystock back to the East Midlands.

“We have a broad range of 3,500 members across the region working in different civil engineering disciplines as well a dedicated core of committed volunteers.

“This event will give them the opportunity to engage with Nick and ask questions of the Director General about the future plans for their Institution and the role of civil engineers in society.”

Before joining ICE, Nick had a successful career in the army, reaching the rank of Brigadier. He commanded the Royal School of Military Engineering from March 2009, leading the £3.2 billion RSME Public Private Partnership.

From an engineering family, he has wide experience of delivering engineering projects. After managing small scale civil engineering contracts as a junior officer, he has spent much of the past 10 years in international post-conflict reconstruction and development.

He has worked on road and power station contracts in the Balkans before moving onto repair and management of regional utility infrastructure in Southern Iraq. This included water supply, irrigation, oil, gas, sewerage and transport systems.
