ICE Hosts American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

Date:

12 JUNE 2012

ICE hosts two day Presidential visit by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Last week, ICE hosted a visit to One Great George Street by ASCE President Andrew Hermann, ASCE Executive Director Pat Natale and ASCE Director of International Planning and Strategic Planning, Meggan Maughan-Brown.

The first day of the visit saw the ASCE guests accompany ICE President Richard Coackley on a fast boat tour to see the Thames Barrier, with commentary from Jean Venables of Crane Environmental who has a superior knowledge of the structure. The afternoon included a visit to see progress on the Tottenham Court Road underground station upgrade, which was kindly hosted by the Joint Venture Team of Taylor Woodrow and Bam Nuttall.

The second day of the visit began with the three ASCE guests attending the State of the Nation Water Launch event. This was then followed by a range of meetings over the day with invited guests from ICE's expert panels and Council, as well as top figures from infrastructure such as the Project Director of HS2.

The three main topics for discussion and ideas sharing over the day were around Infrastructure, Sustainability and Skills. The day was brought to a fitting close by the signing of a new agreement between ICE and ASCE. The agreement is for the realisation of a Vision for 2025 for Civil Engineering.
