ICE NI compete in Titanic 10k for RedR

Date:

28 APRIL 2012

The Titanic 10k is one of the most popular dates in the Northern Ireland athletics calendar, it regularly attracts over 600 runners including elite international competitors, as well as a whole range of local runners, fun runners, joggers and experienced club athletes. This year’s race had extra significance with the celebrations of the Titanic’s centenary in full swing.

To help raise awareness of the outstanding work that RedR UK undertake throughout the world, ICE NI chairman Ian Long and Regional Director Wendy Blundell decided to call upon ICE members to compete in the historic 10k race. A team of ten enthusiastic runners volunteered themselves to represent ICE NI on the day.

On what was a wet, but an enjoyable day out for all involved, for some completing the race was the aim of the day, but for others there were more pressing targets. Simon Lamont (Doran Consulting) completed the race in his suit, complete with shirt and tie. Simon in his preparations for the Belfast marathon is looking to become the fastest runner to complete a marathon in business attire. ICE NI would like to wish the best of luck to Simon in his record attempt.

Ian Long, commenting on the day said:

“Its a fun day out with the chance to raise awareness of the excellent work carried out by charities.”

“This is a unique way of bringing the local ICE membership together and is something that we should certainly build on in the future."
