On Saturday 19th February, 16 teams of civil engineers from around the region descended on the Powerleague Soccerdome in Trafford Park to battle it out for the title of ICE North West 5-a-side football champions
After a hard-fought campaign, the competition was eventually won by the team from Atkins (pictured) in Birchwood, who took home gold medals and the new event trophy, earning a place in the national final. Runners up were Mouchel from Manchester, winning silver medals for their efforts.
Members of the newly formed North West branch of Engineers for Overseas Development were at the tournament selling cakes and refreshments to hungry players and spectators. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, over £100 was raised towards the group’s ongoing project to design and build waste incineration facilities for a hospital in Uganda.
Thanks to all those who participated and to Dave Almond and the ICE NW G&S Committee for organising the event. Anyone interested in taking part in next year’s competition should contact the ICE NW Graduates & Students Committee
