ICE President Peter Hansford Visits the South West

Date:

24 FEBRUARY 2011

A Day's Trip from Plymouth to Poole...

ICE President Peter Hansford visited the South West from 23-24 February 2011 as part of his presidential programme. It is always nice to have the opportunity to showcase the excellent work civil engineers right across the South West are involved in, so four key projects were selected and a packed schedule was created.

Peter's visit began on the evening of 23 February with a graduates and students event organised by the Plymouth G&S committee. The event saw Mike Thorn, ICE SW MDO, give a presentation on routes to membership and also offered the chance for graduates and students to quiz Mike, Peter and President's Apprentice Paul Astle on the issues important to them.

The 24th February involved an itinerary that showcased projects in Plymouth, Exeter, Weymouth and Poole. The selected projects for the visit were:

  • The Life Centre, Plymouth
  • Redhayes Bridge and Exeter Science Park, Exeter
  • Weymouth Relief Road, Dorset
  • Twin Sails Bridge, Poole
  •

The President was impressed by the innovative and vibrant projects he saw and ICE SW would like to thank all those who supported and were involved with the visit.
