On Wednesday 11 May 2011, ICE South West will be holding 'Construction in the Green Economy' a significant conference which will be held at the impressive Eden Project, Cornwall.

This conference will explore what “Sustainable Construction” means for the promoters, designers and constructors of engineering infrastructure, and how it can be measured and recognised. The Eden Project, an outstanding example of the application of sustainability in every aspect, will co-host the conference. There will be an opportunity for a guided tour of this world-famous site.

The construction industry has a huge influence and contribution to make to everyone’s quality of life, and needs to achieve this while minimising the consumption of energy and materials, and its impact on the natural world. “Sustainable Construction” is a response to a Government 21st century strategy to promote “A Better Quality of Life” by trying to reduce the adverse impacts of the built environment during construction and use.

Speakers will include representatives from The Department for Energy & Climate Change, Eco-Bos Developments, promoting a sustainable town development in Mid Cornwall, The Eden Project, the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Award Scheme (CEEQUAL) and North Devon Homes.

The chairman will be Jean Venables, former President of the Institution of Civil Engineers and Chief Executive of the Association of Drainage Authorities.
