ICE West Indies Local Association, Seminar on Godineau Bridge

Date:

15 MAY 2012

On Thursday May 10th, 2012 the ICE West Indies Local Association held its 3rd seminar for 2012 entitled: “A Case Study: Rehabilitation and Restoration of Godineau Bridge”.

The seminar’s keynote speaker was Mr. Mithra Rampersad, Chartered Civil Engineer and Director of Rivelin Consultants Limited (http://www.rivelinconsultants.com). The Seminar was attended by a small audience of twenty persons who took a keen interest in the content and delivery style of the keynote speaker. Questions were fielded on key aspects of the presentation, namely: structural assessment, design approach, use of modern technology, project management constraints and the strategies used to ensure that the bridge remained operational in a safe manner while restorative works were ongoing. The ensuing discussion generated much enthusiasm and interest in the field of structural restoration. The ICE West Indies Local Association would like to thank Mr. Rampersad for volunteering to share his experiences in this field. The Association is very excited that this key aspect of civil engineering is opening up a new industry, not only in Trinidad and Tobago but in the West Indies. This industry would not only foster innovation and create employment but also support the ICE's theme of sustainability. Mr. Rampersad’s presentation can be downloaded here.
