Responding to David Cameron’s speech about renewable energy Director General of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Nick Baveystock said:
“The Prime Minister has heralded the UK as best placed in the world for green energy, however in reality we’re far from capitalising on this opportunity. To realise this ambition Government must urgently move out of the rhetoric and give industry and the public certainty through action not words. Tackling the remaining barriers to developing and upscaling renewable energy sources is crucial for our future energy security – the longer we delay, the fewer and less attractive the options.”
David Cameron was speaking at the third Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM3) in London, where ministers from more than 20 participating countries are gathering to discuss progress made by recent clean energy initiatives, explore ways to enhance international collaboration, and develop strategies to support clean energy deployment.
These comments follow a warning from Nick Baveystock earlier this month that the Government must regain lost ground on Carbon Capture and Storage to help the UK meet its domestic emissions targets and be competitive in the renewable energy sector.
