ICE's Brunel Lecture Visits Luxembourg
ICE Luxembourg Local Association Annual Lecture:
“Beyond rhetoric – delivering a low carbon society”
Keith Clarke, chief executive of Atkins, presented the Brunel lecture to the Luxembourg Local Association on 10th. November 2010. The meeting was held in the offices of the European Investment Bank with an attentive multi-national and multi-discipline audience of about 40.
The lecture has been published by the ICE and is available on the web so will not be repeated here. Suffice to say that it was a brilliantly and convincingly presented and stressed the serious state of affairs and the short time frame available for effective action. Political and technical leadership is required across all sectors and all countries to begin to address the problem. Encouragement to establishing guidelines and methodology based on the CO2 equivalent unit was given.
The difficulties of achieving such a low carbon society were explored in the discussion.
We are most grateful to Keith Clarke for coming to Luxembourg and hope that the lecture will influence the future approach to containing and reducing carbon use, for example in project development.
