The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has received a joint record number of entries for its annual Robert Stephenson Awards.
A total of 16 projects, equalling the number of last year’s entries, have been nominated for the prestigious awards.
Every year organisations and businesses from across the region attend the celebrated awards, presented by ICE North East, which give recognition to outstanding examples of design and construction undertaken either in the North East or by those based within the region.
Robert Stephenson, one of history’s greatest civil engineers, died in 1859, leaving behind a regional, national and global legacy.
Alan Surtees, Robert Stephenson Awards Secretary said: “It really is fantastic to see that we have received the same amount of entries as last year. This shows the amount of continued hard work and innovative ideas being developed within the construction industry.
“The two categories which praise excellence in civil engineering recognise projects valued greater than £4 million, as well as those less than £4 million. We are looking forward to welcoming these entrants and many more businesses and organisations to the awards ceremony, which is part of the annual ICE North East dinner at the Newcastle Marriott Gosforth Park Hotel on April 29.”
Nominations were open to any organisation employing ICE Members either based in, or working in the North East and the clients, consultants and contractors hoping for success are:
