Infrastructural solutions to transportation issues in the West Indies
The ICE West Indies Local Association (ICEWILA) held its first Seminar for the year on Thursday January 19th, 2012 in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Seminar entitled: "Infrastructural Solutions to Transportation Issues in the West Indies" was held at the University of the West Indies (UWI). The Seminar's Keynote Speaker was Dr. Rae Furlonge, President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT). Dr. Furlonge, a subject matter expert on transportation challenges in the Caribbean Region, gave a lively and interactive presentation on this hot topic. Dr. Furlonge spoke about the challenges of solving transportation issues within Trinidad and Tobago and the region in terms of infrastructure, traffic management, proper traffic signalling, use of modern technology, loading requirements, proposed government policies/statutory agencies and the impact of professional development to the efficient management of traffic.
The attending audience of fifty comprised of professionals from industry (consultants and contractors) as well as professionals from the local Ministry of Works. The audience was very responsive to the interactive presentation as the ensuing discussion yielded questions on traffic standards, driving culture, goverment spending, ethics in transportation and the proposed traffic infrastructure.
