This year’s East of England Annual Conference, was held last week at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. The conference asked the question “Is Low Carbon Sustainable Development Possible” and concluded that – given a collective will – it is.
The conference was opened by former Chief Scientific Advisor – Professor Michael Kelly who set out the scale of the challenge. Professor Kelly said that the tackling climate change needed urgent action and that the investment needed in retro-fitting our existing housing stock will run into hundreds of billions.
Speakers representing the views of all the construction professions spoke at – what provided to be – a very enlightening day. Topics covered included new developments, insulation, low carbon emissions, retro-fitting historical buildings and the carbon footprint of the whole life cycle of construction.
This joint conference was hosted by the ICE, IMechE, RIBA, CIBSE and RITP and was sponsored by ACO. View the presentations from the conference.
