Loughborough will play host to the regional launch of a prestigious engineering event, to help alleviate poverty and assist international development in the developing world.
Developed by Professor Paul Jowitt, ICE President 2010/11 and his 12 President’s Apprentices from across the globe, the Engineer’s Toolkit for the developing world contains a series of resources which will help engineers provide vital and sustainable infrastructure in the developing world.
The toolkit will be launched in the region at an event held at Loughborough University’s School of Civil and Building Engineering on Thursday 6 December from 6pm.
Speakers at the event are: Visiting Professor Charles Ainger (MWH and the University of Cambridge) and
Tonderai Chakanyuka (Grontmij).
The event is organised by ICE East Midlands Graduates and Students section and is open to all to attend.
Please book online via the ICE East Midlands website: ice.org.uk/eastmidlands/toolkit-event.
Former ICE President, Professor Paul Jowitt commented: “During my year as ICE President, I worked with 12 young engineers from around the world to develop an engineer’s toolkit for international development.
“This is a first in the civil engineering field as an open-source set of materials and ideas to help engineers plan and deliver infrastructure for international development, poverty alleviation and the UN Millennium Delivery Goals.”
