The first construction project visited was at Kuala Lumpar Sentral, an exclusive urban centre built around Malaysia’s largest transit hub. The student visited the development of Lot G: hotel and office towers.
The second project was a new underground (LRT) station in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.
A bus full of excited students departed from University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus at 8.30am bound for the first stop, KL Sentral. The President of the student chapter, Allen AngA welcomed everyone aboard and went through the itinerary for the day. At KL Sentral, the Project Director Mr Sabri introduced the project structure of Nu central project and the planning of the Lot G building, which while it is hotel and office towers, it’s identified as the “Missing Link”. It will connect the nation’s public transit hub and the Monorail station. He also stated that the aim of the project is to provide a more comfortable shopping experience to the public during any transit. The Construction Manager of the project, Mr Shamsuddin guided students to the Lot G building site area and gave a clear explanation on ongoing construction.
The bus departed to the next site, the new LRT underground station at Bukit Kinrara. This is one of many new stations on the LRT line extension. The group was welcomed by the assigned senior project manager, Mr. Kong. He started by giving an introduction about the ongoing LRT project. This followed by Mr. Chow and Mr. Philip who explained the construction method of this system. The Construction Manager explained to students about the ongoing earthwork in the construction site and showed them around. Various technical aspects were discussed and explained in detail.
The students had a great experience viewing two of the major infrastructure projects happening in Malaysia at the moment.
