Microsoft Building Wins Photograph Competition
Steve Buckley from Mott MacDonald has won the 2012 ‘Picture This’ photograph competition with a night
time image of the new Microsoft building in Station Road, Cambridge.
Congratulations to Steve who received £100. The picture shows the concrete frame of the building and was taken on 28 March this year with a Canon EOS 350D.
Second place went to Andrew Faulkner from Tony Gee and Partners with this picture showing installation of a precast slap under a bridge/pedestrian subway roof at Shenfield Station, Essex. Andrew was responsible for the design. The contractor was Osborne and the end client Network Rail. The picture was taken in September 2011.
ICE Essex Branch Chairman Andy Kenyon landed third place with a photograph showing excavators breaking up the bridge deck of the old Church Road Bridge over the A13 near Pitsea, Essex. It was taken in April. Andy says the bridge was previously been ‘dropped’ onto a crash mat on the carriageway using explosives.
The work is part of the Sadlers Farm Junction improvements by Birse Civil Engineering for Essex County Council. He used a Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR. This is the fifth year the competition has been run. It is not a competition about photography skills but about finding images that we can use to raise the profile of the profession and help the public understand civil engineering.
