My Experience of the Technical Report Route by Robert Lakey

A personal insight into the Technical Report Route to becoming Chartered:

"I went down the Technical Report Route because I did my ONC 25 years ago and could not find any proof of this educational base. This meant that TRR was my only real option to become professionally qualified as an Engineering Technician.

"Overall I found the experience interesting. Initially I must say I found the process a bit confusing, but after Louisa Rix held some workshops at Royal Haskoning in Peterborough explaining the process in more detail, I understood what I was trying to achieve. The hardest part for me was sitting down and thinking back over my work experience and accomplishments from the last 26 years for examples for the development objectives (although these aren’t a formal part of TRR).

"The reason I finally got around to doing this is because I feel that Technicians need to professionalise and have career goals beyond ONC/HNC, and I didn’t feel I could really encourage younger Technicians to do something I have not done myself and had no experience of."
