The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has appointed experienced civil engineer Melinda Lutton as its new Membership Development Officer.
Melinda has more than 20 years’ design and management experience in water and infrastructure projects. Her specialties include flood risk assessment, flood defence design, sewage treatment and drainage design.
Prior to joining the ICE North East regional support team, she has been running her own business for flood consultancy, and previously worked at Cundall, Jacobs and Entec.
Having been a supervising civil engineer, Melinda also has experience in mentoring trainees under agreement and writing company training schemes.
Melinda has initially spent some time shadowing Mike Airey, who currently holds the role, prior to his retirement at the end of March.
As Membership Development Officer, she will be responsible for providing advice and guidance on routes leading to all grades of membership, and will also provide support for graduates and trainees at any stage in their career.
Melinda said: “I have volunteered with ICE at regional and national levels for a long time, and seen the benefits of membership, so the opportunity to take on the role of Membership Development Officer is a great chance to show other people what can be gained from the Institution.”
Stephen Larkin, regional director of ICE North East, said: “Melinda is a great advocate of ICE, so we are very happy to welcome her into a more formal role working for the Institution and look forward to the great contribution we are sure she will make.”
