Wendy Blundell, Head of Devolved Regions and Director for Northern Ireland of ICE has been awarded an OBE for Services to the Construction Industry in the New Year’s Honour List. Wendy joins a very select club; in a male dominated industry, few women have been awarded honours for their services to construction, particularly in Northern Ireland.
Professor Alan Woodside who is a fellow of ICE and previously Director of the Transport and Road Assessment Centre at the University of Ulster received an OBE for services to Higher Education and Highway Engineering in Northern Ireland.
Mr Charles Hutchison who is a chartered civil engineer and Managing Director of Charles Hutchinson Consulting received an MBE for services to Health and Safety in Northern Ireland.
Of her OBE, Wendy said: “It’s a huge honour for anyone to be nominated and receive such a prestigious award. I am incredibly glad to work for such a fantastic organisation, in a job that I thoroughly enjoy.” Wendy was also recognised amongst her peers at ICE in 2012, receiving the Garth Watson medal for long, dedicated and valuable service to the Institution of Civil Engineers.
