The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has named Newcastle student Adam Morgan as the winner of its 2012 Graduates and Students papers competition.
The annual Graduates and Students papers competition is held to promote and reward excellence in the communication of civil engineering issues and ideas. The winner of the 2012 North East Competition, Adam Morgan, is currently studying Civil Engineering at Newcastle University. He impressed the panel with his written paper and presentation on 'An Analysis of Energy from Waste Processes'. In recognition of his efforts, Adam received a £250 cash prize.
This year's runner up was Matt Greaves, Graduate Civil Engineer at Royal Haskoning, who presented his paper on 'Design and Construction of Slip Formed Concrete Caissons in Qatar'. Third place went to Lauren Carr who is studying Civil Engineering with Disaster Management at Teesside University, with her paper on 'Study versus Experience: Civil Engineering Degree Dilemma'.
The standard of entries received was very high this year, and made it a challenge for the three judges, Chris Grey (URS), Chris Taylor (URS) and Graham Sibley (ICE Head of Communications and Marketing), to score and rank the papers and presentations.
