North West Technician QUEST Scholarship winners 2012

Date:

7 MARCH 2012

Congratulations to Anton Loraine, Daryl Charlton, Shaunna Wheeler and Emma Keaney - winners of the 2011/12 ICE NW Technician QUEST awards.

Student members attending any NW course accredited to EngTech are eligible for the scholarships which are awarded on the basis of academic ability, ambition, initiative, commitment to civil engineering and the potential to excel in the industry.

Each ICE Region was allocated 3 scholarships, but the submissions received by NW Region this year were of such a high quality that the Panel sought special permission from the ICE QUEST Committee in London to award 4 scholarships.

Anton, currently studying HND Civil Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), impressed the Panel with his obvious determination to pursue a career in civil engineering and his involvement in ICE activities - including his role as course representative.

Daryl was commended by the Panel for the way in which she is currently juggling her studies (also at LJMU) with domestic commitments. She hopes to go on to study for a civil engineering degree.

The Panel was similarly impressed by the way in which Shaunna was balancing her part time studies at University of Bolton, her job at Bolton Council Highways and Engineering Division, and caring for her family.

Emma, who includes her role as Student Representative at LJMU among many responsibilities, demonstrated excellent communication skills, which the Panel felt sure she would use as a positive role model / ambassador for ICE.

This is the second year that NW Region has awarded these scholarships and it is intended that further Technician QUEST Scholarships will be available in 2012/2013.
