Oakervee a 'sound choice' for HS2 Chair role
Following the appointment of Douglas Oakervee as chair of High Speed 2 Ltd., Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Director General Nick Baveystock commented:
"We are delighted to see such a prominent civil engineer and past ICE President, take the HS2 reins. Doug’s experience in delivering infrastructure projects of this scale all over the world and his respect across Government and industry, make him a sound choice to steer this project through these important, early stages and beyond.”
In addition to his term as the Institution's President from 2003 to 2004, Douglas Oakervee also held the position of Executive Chairman for Crossrail until 2009, during which time the project was given Parliamentary approval.
HS2 Ltd. plans for the London to West Midlands route to enter parliament by October of next year before being given Royal Assent by May 2015.
