Obituary: Dr John Ash
It is with deep sadness that Liverpool John Moores University announces the death of Dr John Ash, researcher in the School of the Built Environment.
School Director Mike Riley paid tribute to John's dedication to LJMU saying: "Throughout the time that he was with the Polytechnic and the University, John was thought of very highly by his colleagues and friends. He was popular and well respected by the students and by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his wife Patricia and daughters Sophie, Maria and Leah at this very sad time."
John joined the Polytechnic in 1988 as a member of technical staff. He later gained a first class honours degree in Civil Engineering before he became a research assistant and studied towards his PhD in the field of bulk storage and the mitigation of secondary containment; which he was awarded in 2009/10. He was then appointed as a post-doctoral researcher. John acted as the School ICE Liaison for a number of years and helped organise numerous student focused events, which endeared him to the undergraduates he taught. His specialist areas encompassed science, materials and geotechnics. John was very much a ‘team player’ and has contributed greatly towards the teaching of Civil Engineering within LJMU; his contribution to the School of the Built Environment will be greatly missed by both students and staff.
