It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our esteemed colleague, friend and ICE Member, Harry McMullen. He was a popular member of staff at Graham and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Chartered Civil Engineer, Harry first started in Graham as a student in the summer of 1973 working on site at the Kilroot Power Station. Following graduation from Queen’s University he returned to Kilroot in July 1974 and over the next ten years worked on a variety of civil engineering projects including the Foyle Bridge where he was responsible for construction of all foundations, sub-structure, pre-stressed concrete viaduct and all temporary works in connection with construction of the main spans in steel.
In 1988 Harry moved to England firstly as a Contracts Manager before fulfilling the role of Regional Manager for ten years, successfully delivering a number of building and civil engineering projects for Graham. On his return to Ireland in 1998, Harry worked on Graham’s first major building projects in the Republic of Ireland, fulfilling the role of Contracts Director on both the Connolly Street Office Construction and Station Refurbishment project and construction of new offices for the Department of Education at Marlborough Street in Dublin.
After their completion Harry moved back to Dromore as Technical Manager specifically working on water and wastewater tenders. Over the last 10 years, Harry has led successes on the water frameworks, initially for Northern Ireland Water and latterly for Welsh Water and Northumbrian Water.
Most recently Harry was the Head of Bids for the Civils Division and was instrumental in winning the Rolls Royce project amongst others.
Harry was a keen, enthusiastic, witty and vocal member of the Civils Management Board and will be sadly missed by all his fellow colleagues within Graham and ICE.
Harry died on Friday 18 January after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Mary and sons; Richard and David.
