Presidential Tour to the Middle East: Qatar

ICE President Richard Coackley visited Qatar in October as part of his Presidential Tour to the Middle East region where he also attended the ICE’s 3rd MEA Convention in Dubai.

Following a tour of the major developments of Doha including Education City and The Pearl, the party arrived at the Qatar Society of Engineers in Katara Cultural Village. A productive meeting was held with two Members including a member of The Engineers Registration Committee of the Ministry of Urban Planning which licences every Engineer by interview who wishes to operate in Qatar. Current issues of registration were discussed, the ICE processes of qualification were explained as well as possible transfer of knowledge for mutual benefit..

Afterwards a lunch for seventeen engineers from various international companies was attended by the British ambassador, Michael O’Neill CMG. A site visit to Doha’s major sewage forwarding pumping station followed in the afternoon. In the evening twenty-five ICE members enjoyed light refreshments whilst having an extensive discussion on membership and institution issues with the President and Director of Membership, David Lloyd-Roach.
