South West Graduates and Students Prize Papers Regional Winner Announced

ICE South West is pleased to annouce that Andrew Hallam, a final year student at the University of Plymouth, has been announced as the winner of the 2013 regional round of the G&S Papers competition.

Andrew presented his paper, 'Using Genetic Algorithms to determine Optimum bar arrangements for Biaxial columns', at the regional final, held in Taunton on the evening of 5th March. Judges commented that his paper was well-ordered and keenly presented.

A close runner-up was Robert Moore, a Graduate Engineer with Black and Veatch, with his paper 'Evaluating the Sustainability of FIFA World Cup Football'. Again, the judges were impressed and commented that Robert made a good effort to engage with the audience and judging panel.

Andrew will receive £200 prize money as the regional winner, plus a ticket to this year's Annual Dinner and awards ceremony to receive his winner's certificate. Robert will be awarded £100 prize money as runner-up.
