Special events - Football, Dragon boats and Debates

We have some really special events lined up for you to get involved in, including the five-a-side competition, a dragon boat race and a debate on the future of civil engineering in the light of the high university tuition fees.

Dragon Boat Racing 17th June

The 2011 ICE Thames Valley Awards dinner will take place at Eton Dorney, the venue for the 2012 Olympic rowing and sprint canoe events, and we have a unique chance to use their sporting facilities.

The ICE Thames Valley Dragon Boat Race is open to four teams of 15, including one drummer. Races take place over the final 250m of the rowing course, with each team taking part in two races.

Places are excellent value at only £15 per person.

Debate: What is the future for civil engineering when university tuition fees are £9k a year?

ICE President Peter Hansford has made ‘value’ the theme of his year in office: the value of infrastructure; value for money; value for carbon; the value of civil engineers; and the value of the Institution – for our members and for society.

The rise in university tuition fees puts a new focus on the idea of ‘value’ for graduate and student engineers, and for society as a whole.

Five-a-side football - Register by the 6th May

Open to everyone of any ability teams of 8 may apply online. Cost of entry is £55 per team with teams from Fugro, Foster Wheeler, WSP and Black and Veatch already registered.
