Stratford Parkway welcomes President on Warwickshire tour

Date:

12 MARCH 2013

ICE Presidents are in great demand and diaries get booked up well in advance but ICE West Midlands has been lucky to secure two Presidential visits this year.  For the first visit Professor Barry Clarke, ICE President 2012-13, was invited by our Coventry & Warwickshire Group to tour two major universities and a key infrastructure improvement site in Warwickshire on 20 February.

In a packed itinerary organised by ICE Coventry & Warwickshire Group Professor Clarke toured the new Stratford Parkway train station, due to open in May.

"The new £6.9 million station at Bishopton is part of the Stratford Local Sustainable Transport Project scheme, which also includes improved train services, enhancements to the Park and Ride bus services, electric vehicle charging points and a cycle hire scheme."

The day continued with a demonstration of a dynamic footbridge for research on human-structure interaction at Warwick University (presented by Dr Stana Zivanovic) followed by a visit to Coventry University where he met year 1 and MSC students.

The President's tour of the region concluded with an evening presentation to ICE members at Coventry University.

The President will return to the region on 2nd May for the Annual President's visit and ICE West Midlands Annual Awards.
