Students receive ICE QUEST Scholarships
Student members of the Institution of Civil Engineers have been awarded the annual QUEST Scholarships for 2012.
This year’s winners were Stephanie McVeigh who will be sponsored by Atkins, Karen Coulter who is sponsored by Farrans and Stephen Coulter who won the QUEST ‘Only’ award and will be sponsored by ICE. The QUEST Scholarships were initiated in 1977 in honour of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and provides financial support for undergraduate civil engineering students who are studying in the UK. The scholarship also provides successful candidates with regular work placement opportunities and potential employment after graduation with a leading company.
The application process for QUEST Scholarships is competitive and it attracts the highest calibre students. Regional Director of ICE Northern Ireland, Wendy Blundell said: “We are always striving to provide support for our student members, especially helping them get work experience from some of the leading civil engineering companies in NI. QUEST provides the successful candidates with an excellent starting position when they are entering the competitive world of work following their graduations, while the financial incentive is always helpful to students.”
Since it began, QUEST has supported hundreds of civil engineering students, many of which are now working in the industry. At present there are over 250 QUEST scholars studying throughout the UK and the scholarship is supported by many of the leading engineering companies.
