Tallest tower wins a place on ICE & Snow!

Date:

2 MAY 2012

The winner of the ‘Tallest ICE Tower’ competition, held by ICE at the Big Bang Fair in March, has won two free places on the ICE & Snow ski trip 2012. This is an annual, seven-day ski trip combining engineering challenges with alpine activities.

Bethany Wong (Year 6) from St Mary’s Primary School, Thornbury, won two free places and ICE South West Regional Director, Trish Johnson, went to the school to present Bethany’s certificate.

Trish told us ‘The challenge was a great way to introduce the students to civil engineering, and brilliant to have such an exciting prize on offer. Both the tower building competition and ICE & Snow trip are really fun ways to engage with young people and teach them about ICE, as well as learning basic engineering principles.’

Fierce competition on the ICE stand
St Mary’s Primary School fought off tough competition on the ICE stand at the fair, building the tallest tower of the day using only wooden blocks. All students’ names from the tallest towers were entered into a prize draw, which Bethany won.

A delighted Bethany told us: ‘I was really excited to find out that I had won the competition! I’ve never been skiing before and am looking forward to going with my dad in December. The tower challenge was really fun!’
