A report commissioned by London Mayor Boris Johnson and conducted by Newmarket based Douglas Oakervee into the feasibility of a new airport in the Thames Estuary has been published today.  The 64 page report Thames Estuary Airport Feasibility Reivew urges progress as soon as possible. The Institution of Civil Engineers of which Mr Oakervee is a Past President has issued the following response.

Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Director General, Tom Foulkes, said:

“We welcome the fact that Doug Oakervee has taken such a holistic approach to the potential development of the whole Thames Estuary. This approach rightly considers energy, surface transport and flood defence, and not just the airport itself.

"We look forward to seeing further research into the project’s feasibility and desirability – and hope for the same integrated approach which incorporates the wider but crucial strands of this debate. We welcome that any future considerations will benefit from the wisdom, experience and leadership of Sir David King.”
