The McNulty report: Engineers' response

Date:

20 MAY 2011

ICE's Director General, Tom Foulkes, has welcomed the release of the McNulty report, and provided comment on behalf of ICE.

“Efforts to drive down costs, increase capacity and better the reputation of our rail system are to be welcomed and we are encouraged to see that many of McNulty’s recommendations for cuttings costs rightly mirror the ongoing work led by Infrastructure UK to reduce the cost of major infrastructure projects in the UK.

“The onus is now on Government to use this report in mapping out its long term vision for rail, including how it will transform the network, drive efficiencies and really maximise the potential of the asset - all promises set out in the National Infrastructure Plan. It is an opportunity that should not be missed and we look forward to seeing some detail in the second edition of the Plan due out this autumn.”
