Severn Trent and Centro help launch 'This is Civil Engineering' campaign

ICE West Midlands is the first English region to launch "This is Civil Engineering" -  an innovative national campaign to build public awareness of the civil engineering which is all around us.

Severn Trent Water and Centro, who are developing the Metro extension site in the centre of Birmingham, are the first organisations in the West Midlands to support the campaign by displaying 'This is Civil Engineering’ banners on sites in Birmingham city centre.

Banners will be displayed at prominent locations ensuring that thousands of members of the public will be made aware of the key infrastructure work which is being delivered by civil engineers. It is hoped that people will scan the banner QR code to visit the campaign web site to learn more.

Richard Williams, Project Manager for Severn Trent Water, said: "Bringing trams back into the heart of Birmingham is a huge project that will undoubtedly make a great difference to the city’s transport network, once it is completed. While our engineers work in the centre of the city to alter major sewers and water mains to accommodate the tram, it is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of civil engineering."

Alastair Templeton, ICE West Midlands Past Chairman, thanked Severn Trent and Centro for being the first to sign up to ‘This is Civil Engineering’ campaign and said: “This is an exciting new initiative which encourages people to learn more about the civil engineering which is going on around them and improving their lives. We hope that many more organisations in the region will join the campaign and spread the word.”

If you have a project where a banner could be displayed contact Jane Clinton, ICE West Midlands, Marcomms Executive to find out how to get involved.
