Understanding global water issues

Date:

28 AUGUST 2012

Following the launch of Managing Water Locally, an event has been held at the Newcastle Institute for Research on Sustainability, aiming to answer the question of:

‘How global issues of demographic change, environment and climate change unfold at the local level and the role that local water users can play in adapting to the impact on water resources.’

Missed the event? Watch online!

A recording of the event is available to ICE members online:

1. Water resources management in practice:
The session examines current mechanisms for managing water resources, particularly in low income-income countries

2. The importance of community and local level water management:
Speakers highlight the importance of respecting traditional and community-level knowledge in water resource management

3. Aligning water policy with field realities at all levels:
The session looks at the principles of good water resource management. For water policy to be effective, local institutions as well as water users must be more involved in decision-making processes

ICE, Oxfam and WaterAid are looking to promote the findings of ‘Managing Water Locally’ further, and to develop practical applications in the field. For more information, contact international@ice.org.uk
