The Challenges to Ensure 80% Reduction of CO2 by 2050
The challenges to ensure safe, secure, affordable energy in the 21st Century appear to be increasing rather than decreasing. Geopolitical instability, political intransigence and Mother Nature are all conspiring to make the task more difficult. The talk will re-examine the situation in the UK where until recently neither engineering reality nor social/behavioural challenge have been sufficiently taken into account in setting policy. It will also reflect on international events, such as the ongoing instability in the Middle East and the Tsunami in Japan, and their impact on the energy sector.

West of Wight Offshore Wind Park
In January 2010, Eneco was awarded the exclusive right to develop the ‘Zone 7’ offshore wind park by The Crown Estate. With an estimated minimum potential capacity of 900MW, this project is located off the Dorset and Hampshire coast and to the west of the Isle of Wight. This important wind park will have the potential to make a contribution to meeting national targets for the increased use of renewable energy, reducing the country’s dependency on fossil fuel imports, and help to address the causes of climate change. The presentation is given by Stuart Grant, a key member of the core delivery team for this project.
