GWoS Rapid Response Engineering Challenge (RREC) - Volunteer Engineers Required

The Rapid Response Engineering Challenge (RREC) is an activity for Year 1 and Year 2 secondary school pupils to help them understand the scope of work undertaken by Civil Engineers particularly in the event of a disaster.

The Challenge is launched via a Motivational Talk which presents the scenario of a 'hurricane in Honduras' and where the extent of the devastation requires engineering assistance to establish shelter, safe drinking water, transportation and communication.

Pupils are then 'trained' to be Rapid Response Engineers over the next one to two weeks and are able to put their skills to use at an Activity Day.

Engineers deliver the Motivational Talk which is a highly interactive presentation and benefits from a bit of theatre to deliver it well to audiences of 50 to 250 pupils. Engineers also support teachers and encourage teams of pupils in completion of a number of challenges in an Activity Day.

This is a great opportunity to help promote awareness of civil engineering and in Glasgow and the West of Scotland 16 schools have booked to run the Challenge this year.

A Briefing Session will be held on the 7th March for interested GWoS engineers. If you wish to volunteer or would like more information on the Briefing Session then please e-mail Hazel Wilson at hjwconsulting@gmail.com or phone 07951 663 703.

Please note that RREC events happen across the whole of Scotland and we are always seeking volunteers.
