On 17th January, the British Tunnelling Society (BTS) hosted a celebratory lunch for winners of the James Clark Medal in the Council Room at ICE.
James Clark worked for Charles Brand & Sons on many well known tunnels and died in his early 60s. In 1981 Madeline, his wife, bequeathed a sum of money to provide a medal to be awarded by the BTS to a British Tunneller annually to perpetuate his memory. This award is made to those who have made a major contribution to the tunnelling industry, innovated and been responsible for large projects.
The lunch was well-attended by past recipients of the award as well as members of the BTS Executive Committee. The drinks reception and three course lunch were very much enjoyed by all and the BTS plans to host similar events at ICE in the future.
