Staffordshire debates HS2

A large audience discussed what HS2 would mean for Staffordshire in a debate organized by ICE Staffordshire Group on 30 May 2013.

Would the economic benefits be limited to Birmingham and Manchester with north Staffordshire being bypassed? Should we campaign for an additional station to link to our wider markets?

A VolkerFitzpatrick/Colas joint venture major construction project is the latest to join in the 'This is civil engineering' campain in our region. The two projects to realign and improve the A45 transport corridor and Birmingham Airport runway extension form part of a £44 million civil engineering project to improve transport links, locally and worldwide.

Educate, innovate, inspire - President's message to region on annual visit

ICE President, Professor Barry Clarke is passionate about promoting ICE's key objectives of ensuring education has a role to play throughout a civil engineer’s life; inspiring the next generation to become civil engineers; innovating by creating and sharing knowledge and informing government decision making.

These objectives were reflected in his visit to the region on 2 May.

Tamworth flood scheme spreads the word

16 APRIL 2013

On Wednesday 20 March, a class of 35 children from Thomas Barnes Primary School, Hopwas, spent the morning on the site of the £2.5 million Environment Agency Flood Risk Management Scheme at Coton, Tamworth.  The children, aged 8 to 11, were shown around the scheme by site staff, and learnt about what is being done in their local area to reduce the risk of flooding.

HS2 Chairman speaks at BASE Birmingham

Stratford Parkway welcomes President on Warwickshire tour

ICE Presidents are in great demand and diaries get booked up well in advance but ICE West Midlands has been lucky to secure two Presidential visits this year.  For the first visit Professor Barry Clarke, ICE President 2012-13, was invited by our Coventry & Warwickshire Group to tour two major universities and a key infrastructure improvement site in Warwickshire on 20 February.

Consultants join forces to win Regional Comms Comp

In a spirit of true co-operation a team of five from WSP, Arup and Atkins has won the regional round of the Communications Competition. Tasha Scott, a Graduate Structural Engineer with WSP, had gathered her team from contacts she'd made at ICE networking events in the region.

RCEA continues successful joint working with ICE West Midlands
