144 years old and still going strong: British built water treatment plant in India

The Eastern regions of ICE and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently organised their first field trip to Asia’s oldest water treatment plant, operated by Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), which supplies potable water from the River Hooghly.

More than 160 participants from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Australia, USA, UK and Canada participated in an international conference on the Sustainable Development of Transport Systems recently in Nepal. It was organised by the Nepal Engineering College (nec) in collaboration with the Nepal Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MOPPW), the Nepal Ministry of Local Development (MOLD), the Nepal Ministry of Environment (MOE), the Nepal Engineers’ Association (NEA) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

Vidya Jyothi Professor Dayantha Wijeyesekera, has been appointed as the first Chancellor of the University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) by the President of Sri Lanka.

China transport delegation

A delegation of 20 Chinese government transport officials visited the ICE recently to learn about UK highways and they engaged in an interesting discussion with senior ICE members which they found to be “very informative and useful.”
