Engineers’ response to Heathrow access review
Commenting on Lord Mawhinney’s review on access to Heathrow airport
Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Aviation Expert, Peter Budd, said:
"Access to and from UK airports is in need of urgent attention therefore this review is timely and welcome, particularly the recommendation for a more integrated and greater range of rail connections to Heathrow, and an investigation into the most effective options.
"Public transport journeys to London's five airports account for just over a third of all passenger journeys to and from the airports. A more integrated transport approach will help address over usage of the private car and under use of public transport. It would also reduce the carbon impact of surface access and help reduce road congestion."
