ICE calls for commitment to CCS trials
Responding to the announcement that the last remaining CCS demonstration project at Longannet in Scotland has been abandoned, ICE Director General Tom Foulkes said:
“We’re very concerned that beginning the bidding process again for CCS projects is going to further delay the development of this vital technology. CCS could drastically reduce emissions from the fossil-fuelled power stations we will rely heavily on for many more years. The global decarbonisation potential of CCS could also be huge – as could the economic opportunities for the UK if we can rise to the challenge. Government needs to demonstrate to industry that they are fully behind CCS and make every effort to ensure that Plan B is more effective than Plan A.”
